Hoël DURET

In residence from September to November 2019

Hoël Duret graduated from the Fine Arts School in Nantes in 2011 and works between Paris, Nantes and Brest.

Multifaceted artist, Hoël Duret writes scripts that he brings to life through his paintings, sculptures, installations, films … and the purpose is less to tell stories than to work on fiction. He builds a protean thought whose main object is the act of creation itself. His projects aspire to the emergence of total works whose grandiloquence turns quickly to the absurd by defeating the visions of his characters, heroes of everyday life, superb failures, cosmic illuminations … His “dramatic” stories deliver a vision on both funny and critical post-modernism and its setbacks, entangled in a mercantile mechanics that sells dreams at any cost. Proceeding by exacerbation and saturation, injecting into his achievements a profusion of cultural references, he pushes his scenarios in their entrenchments, to their rupture point.

Through his projects, Hoël Duret considers the creation and the role of the artist with a great freedom and a multifaceted vision that tends towards a total art with humor and self-mockery.

His work has been showed in France at the Georges Pompidou Center, the Palais de Tokyo, the Palais Garnier – Paris Opera, during the FIAC 2016, the FRAC Pays de la Loire, the Art Center of Gennevilliers and at hotel Le Meurice and abroad at Yishu 8, Beijing, China, Seoul Art Museum, Korea, MUDAM, Luxembourg, Palazzo Strozzi, Florence, Italy, Palazzo delle Stelline, Milan, Italy, Tel Aviv Museum, Israel, at Ford Theaters, LA, USA and Martos Gallery, LA, USA. In January 2019 he open a solo exhibition at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris.
